Principal’s Piece — Justin Harrison

School Review
Last week, Toolooa SHS was fortunate enough to have four reviewers from the Department’s School and Region Review Branch attend our school and conduct our four-year school review. Over the four days, the reviewers looked closely at Toolooa’s performance data and spoke to a wide range of staff, students, parents/carers and community members to get an accurate picture of our school. The reviewers do not rate or compare schools, but provide us with independent feedback so we can continue to improve learning outcomes for all students. Toolooa will be provided with a comprehensive report which will help inform our next four-year strategic plan. This report, one that I will share with our community, will detail key findings and recommended improvement strategies to maximise student outcomes.

Term 3 Assessment
With assessment upon everyone, it is critical that all students are fully aware of their assessment requirements and seek clarification if needed. I encourage all parents to check with their child to make sure they are on track, support them in any way, visually check their piece and take a vested interest in their work. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

Student Free Day – Friday 30th of August
This is an important reminder to our community that tomorrow is a Student Free Day. While students are using the time wisely to prepare for upcoming assessment, staff who are not involved in the Confirmation process with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority on that day will be completing Professional Development and collaboratively planning for upcoming units.

Student Code of Conduct
Toolooa's Student Code of Conduct was developed and implemented in 2020. A copy of the Student Code of Conduct can be found on our school website. We are currently reviewing this and making changes to ensure that we are continuing to support our students. If you would like to provide any feedback with regards to our Student Code of Conduct, please email dwill321@eq.edu.au

Vietnam Veterans’ Day 2024
On Sunday 18 August, Ben, Jiexi & Alex (3 of our School Leaders) represented Toolooa SHS at the Vietnam Veterans’ Day Service at ANZAC Park. It was a special service whereby those who attended paused and reflected on the service and sacrifice that Australian troops displayed throughout the war and commemorate all the battles fought by Australians in Vietnam, from large-scale operations to platoon and section-level encounters.

They Honour Those Veterans Who:
  • Lost their lives during battle;
  • Returned home wounded, ill or injured;
  • Lost their lives in the years since they returned, and
  • Still carry the physical and emotional scars of their service

We also pause to reflect on the impact of service on veteran’s families.

To all veterans, thank you.
